Alcoholic dating

Oh. What the hell!

It must be spring. Or I must just be worn down by the drip drip of press releases sent to me by the woman who organizes these things, but.. . if you’re desperate to meet someone new this year, you could do worse than a new initiative on the speed dating front.

Butterfly social seem to think that combining dating with DOING something interesting might be a good idea. Hmmm. Perhaps they are right. I have no idea.

On the other hand, I was amused by their upcoming May event, which appears to combine speed dating with serious drinking. Yep. On May 18 they are planning to combine speed dating with three hours of whisky tasting.

Featured tipples will include:

Macallan 12yr Old Sherry Oak & Chilli chocolate
Glenrothes Select Reserve & Moist Fruit Cake
Highland Park 12yr Old & Stem Ginger Biscuits
Laphroaig 10yr Old & Roquefort Cheese

Huh? This is meaningless to me, though might appeal to andrea, who demanded single malt whisky for her recent birthday.

Is this combination of alcohol and dating a good idea? And (possible sexist assumption here) is it not more likely to appeal to blokes? I haven’t the faintest – although I’d suspect that if you happen to meet the love of your life after two and a half hours of this stuff, you could well wake up the next morning with rather more than a bad hangover.

Definite sexist assumption. Single malts are terrific though I’m not sure about the combinations with food – I fear the wonderful flavour of Laphroaig would clash with the (also delicious) tang of Roquefort.

At the moment the people I know who are most appreciative of single malts are women, though it’s quite possible that men also enjoy the taste. (And, for that matter, is the dating event limited to straight people?)

course its not sexist…them nibbles are for the ladies!

but more seriously…. female single malt drinkers are a growing market who i believe bring with them appalling habits like drinking single malts with ice-cubes in (guilty as charged) 🙂
